Stalker58 - claims to be a SU pilot in real life - speaks about the real-world operation/function of the datalink in Russian jets.

I found it very interesting.

Would be interested in your thoughts on this subject.

Is he correct?

Does anybody know this stalker? Is he legitimate?

Do you think the datalink he describes would be "good" for LOCKON?

:)

OK, I don't know answer on your question but I did read Stalker58 posts:) Since I personally know several real and Mig and Su pilots, it seems that this guy not a pilot; however, he is a quite literate in this area..Well I may be wrong but still...I've seen a lot of pilots in my life..To be correct, I was growing up among pilots (since my fahter was a test pilot) but I never noticed such attitude of Soviet pilots toward their planes like this guy has..

2 AlphaWhiskey:
In real life datalink on russian planes can be receved from AWACS, Comand center, the other airplanes of sqadron.
From open sources we know, thet there are two lewels of datalink exchange:
Betwen comander of sqadron and comander of formation
And betwen comander of formation and pilots of formation.

Each pilot have a possibility to translate 10 targets to 4 preprogrammed planes of his squadron. (It can be understanded, if we'll look to the panel under the right arm of a pilot of Su-27 - 4 numered buttons for planes and 10 numered buttons for targets).

Datalink give possibility to a pilot to know a air situation.
Datalink give to a pilot all information about target, it is controling the radar and IRST scan zones (this we can know from open sources), controlling turning on and locking on moments of radar and IRST. It give to a pilot instrumental flight control directive comands to make an full atack manuver (from a take off, to a missile launch and CAC).

hi all, new member as of today... ;)

I was just wondering about the possibility to use AWACS as help when locking enemies, as in Flanker 2.5... Is this possible with the real datalink?

I know they have taken this feature out of lomac, due to realism. But is this due to the timeframe of the game, or due to that the real russian jets never ever have had this feature in the datalink?

oh, and on a sidenote; how far apart are Estonian and Russian languages? Can they understand each other at all?

No, it can't be done in reality. You can only see a "big picture" from the AWACS, but you have to use your own radar to search and lock onto target as it is in LOMAC.

They are totally different. Russian is a Slavic language and Estonian is close to Finnish and Karelian.

Hello!

I'm newby

I have a question to HAN

Pal, have you any more info about the Flanker's datalink?

I have read only that's called "Spektr"...and that in a recently russian/ukranian magazine (Aviatsiya Vremya IIRC) it says that the a/c has intra-flight datalink caps...

Can you tell me more about?

Did you know, per example, how many info about the contacts are displayed?

What about the TAKT/DUBL switch just up the HDD??

Hope to get some answers :D...

Did you have any info about the soviet experience with datalinks?, specially the old Lazur ones workin with Vozdukh-1 sets (VP-11)...

Regards
Pit
