"My last check was to ensure that the wing-fold "feathers" (thin metal covers over the wing-fold joint) were flush with the wing surface up to 280 knots indicated airspeed. After that check, I decided to try to exceed 500mph so I would be able to say that I had flown as fast as Curtiss test pilot H. Lloyd Childs, who claimed to have dived to that speed in the Curtiss Hawk 75 in late 1939. I then climbed my Wildcat to slightly over 25,000 feet, and with full power, rolled over and pulled through to the vertical to let the speed build up! The airspeed acceleration was fantastic! I couldn't keep up with the needle on the airspeed indicator and also watch the upcoming ground, so I made a last airspeed notation and a SG pullout just below 7,000 feet. I recorded the air temperature, so I was later able to calculate that my corrected true airspeed had been about 510mph just before the pullout. I had flown as fast as Childs; he was no longer "the fastest man alive." I kept it quiet; I was sure that I would have been severely chastised for taking such liberties on my first flight. It was a great feeling, though, even if I couldn't brag about it."

Интересно, а может кто проверить, в игре Уайлдкэт выдержит на этой высоте (2100-2200 м) 810-820 км/ч ТАС? Проверьте кто-нибудь :)
