Hi all,
IMPORTANT !!! IMPORTANT !!! IMPORTANT !!! IMPORTANT !!! IMPORTANT !!!
Please try this for yourself if you use the "-noloader" option, but if you are novice and/or unfamiliar with all this then don't experiment since I would not be responsible for any trouble you might encounter...
IMPORTANT !!! IMPORTANT !!! IMPORTANT !!! IMPORTANT !!! IMPORTANT !!!

As many of you know there is an semi-unofficial command line option for F4.
It is called "-noloader and when added to F4 shortcut it lessens the time
spend in the F4 "Loader Pie" and you almost immediately get transferred
into cockpit.
While the good thing was that you got in cockpit immediately and had full functionality, the drawback was in fact that at this same time you had
simultaneous texture load for outside world graphics and this would take some
amount of time (around 30-60 seconds in most cases - i.e. until all hard disk
activity is finished).
Today I was playing with some of my Win98SE system settings and I managed
to lessen this texture load time to just 4 (four) seconds !!!

THIS IS INCREDIBLE AND I NEVER EVER GOT IN F4 MISSIONS (TE/CAMPAIGN) BEFORE
SO FAST AND I HAVE ALL OPTIONS MAXED-OUT!!!

What I did was to change one very old setting I had in "System.ini" file and
never bothered to look it afterwards (all programs run very fast anyways)...
[vcache]
MinFileCache=16384
MaxFileCache=65536

I now have just 4 (four) seconds of total disk activity when I enter cockpit
after F4 "Loader Pie" and have altogether no more than 20 seconds after I press fly icon (7 seconds for F4 "Loader Pie" to show, 7 seconds for F4 "Loader Pie"
to end and 4 seconds of texture loading while I am already in cockpit) !!!

Please note that I have 256 MB of RAM and that I can use the 64 MB for cache
without problem (I tested this with Window's "System Monitor" with refresh of
30 sec) and even during campaign the F4 never uses the SWAP file and the RAM
was never fully used).
Also many people say that setting those is only valid for Win95 and that in
Win98 you should not place this in "system.ini" and left windows to manage it
on it's own. But when I tested I got better results with fixed settings (i.e.
when I limited windows). This is due to fact that windows were sometimes using
as much as 100+ MB for disk cache in unwanted situations and started to use
the SWAP file. For me the usage of SWAP file in system with 256 MB or RAM
while 100+ MB of those is used for disk cache is totally crazy thing and
therefore I always used the limit in my windows.
