New Lock On Release Date
Carl Norman, Executive Producer at SSI / Ubi Soft has announced at the [Flanker 2] official site that Lock On: Modern Air Combat is tentatively scheduled for a release in February, 2002. Press materials distributed at [E3] had indicated an availability date of Q3, 2001. The [announcement], in its entirety, reads as follows:
TOPIC: LOMAC STATUS
I am repeating this message from another thread. Several media sources are reporting that Lock On: Modern Air Combat has a new release date of February 2002. That is true, but while Marketing and Sales may state the product is shipping in February, Matt and I are saying that it is "scheduled" for that date. Anything can happen and changes take place.
Just prior to the E3 Trade Show, Matt and I asked that the product be moved to a Q1 2002 release because we just don't have enough time to put in all the features in the current design under the current schedule. The choice was to either significantly cut features or move the date. We moved the date. Neither of us make formal announcements about release dates until we are sure that we have a chance to hit the announced date. Until this product is in final Beta, I will not be comfortable discussing exact release dates. Because the new scheduled date was approved, the Press got the word and you know the rest of the story.
LOMAC is coming along very well but with a reduced staff here at SSI combined with some personnel transition at the developer, we decided to ask for more time now rather than later. It will be worth the wait.
When exactly will it ship? When it is ready. Anyone that is really surprised and feels that we "promised" you an exact release date has not be paying attention to our multiple disclaimers and chants of "no promises."
Before any of you attempt, there will be no more additions to the design, no additional aircraft or feature, no last minute additions of any kind, so please don't even ask. The design is locked and the concrete has been poured.
