There was a rough Varieze owned by the Chino Museum.
It was apparently sold to a young man who spent great effort at Chino making it fly.
The guy had a friend who would also fly the plane.
On Friday afternoon, the friend said he was going for a short hop. It turned out that he was out reporting to Palm
Springs - was at 5,000. Later started descent to 4200' then disappeared off the screen in the center of the
Banning
pass. The rebuilder went out to help in the search Friday night.
He was back at Chino by Saturday afternoon. They had searched the foothills north of the pass but found the
smudge in
among the windmills.
There was, seen from the air, a gear leg, a lump of engine and a 10' gash outward of which were what looked like
potato
chips - not much remained. It was assumed that the pilot went straight in from 4200' - because the crash position
was
right under the last radar position.
I don't know either of the guys involved. Bill Oertel, who is at Oshkosh this week - knows the young owner.
Unbeknownst to the owner, the pilot took a volunteer from the museum to his death too.
We were speculating about heart attack at the stick.....

Он летал на Лоног Изи, а не Вэри Изи
И самое главное о его гибили.
Если один из нис (пилотов) сделает так много ошибок в первом полёте на новом для него типе
самолёте. То любой из нас заслуживает наказание = Смерть.
Одна из четырёх ошибок Джон сделал )))))
В самолёте небыло горючего.....Каждая из его ошибок могла привести его к смерти.
А сделать их все в одном полёте, смерть неизбежна.
