Friday 26.03.04
After approx 10 hours of travel our train arrived in Wuhan, local time 7 in the morning.
On the train station we were once again picked up by the bus which headed towards the hotel. An expression that China is country of contrasts is very true, because after driving thru ordinary, just regular looking town we arrived into top notch 4-star hotel East Lake Hotel.

After accomodations we got very little time to get some rest, because around 11am we had to go to leave hotel and go to High Tech Tower where tournament was about to take place.
I must mention the scale of this tournament, in the hotel we have recieved custom made booklets with included in them postcards with pictures of every plane that was included in the competition. But not only that also custom made post stamps were included!!! There, something for you to learn, Public Relations people.

Few words about chinese drivers. I can tell you one thing for sure, that comparing to them, Michael Shumaher is just quietly sitting in the corner and smoking.. (Russian expression, cannot be translated =)) During our travel we were getting an impression that all chinese drivers are big fans of the game NFS. Even our bus was cutting off zooming by some Audi A6 (which are very common over there) and all other light weighted junk. And pedestrians and extremely brave people, i think their main motto in life sounds like... - «No biggie, all cars have breaks, we`ll survive...» .

Anyways, i kind of went off topic....
So, we arrived to the place, in the middle of ordinary town stanging a big tower built of concrete and metal, some people met us outside of the tower and escorted upstairs. That`s where our jaws started to drop....because every stairwell, every floor and intersection were decorated with banners and symbols of the countries that arrived on this tournament, tons of advertisement for the championship itself and needless to say that there was big amount of reporters with cameras filming all this. When we came up on the second floor, in the hallway we noticed multiple framed pictures with screen-shots of IL-2.

We proceed into the waiting area where we have met some people and after that everybody was invited to press-conference where rules and regulations of the tournament were anounced and we could ask our questions as well. All groups were formed right there too.

After press-conference we were invited to there room where our gaming computers were awaiting their pilots.
After completing all neccessary adjustments and setups of joysticks, compuiters...etc, we were invited to breakfast.
The Opening Ceremony started right after the breakfast, we were lined up behind the girls that were holding sheets with the name of the countries and we followed then into spectactors area, which looked pretty much the same as pretty big movie theater. After introducing all countires-participants we could sit down and all kinds of officials started to pronounce speeches, basically Ceremony of Opening continued.

The ceremony itself took a long time and we started getting out of our schedle, that`s why before we went to dinner, we could only complete one fight with finnish team.
By the way, a little bit about concept of this tournament.
8 countries were present, after forming up teams 8 were devided on two groups of four. In our group(I think it was called grop B) Were UK, Findland, Switzerland and us. Other group included Czech Republic, Germany, Lithuania and China. Each group had to have all-around tournament, meaning each team had to meet with every competitor in their group. After that all points would be summarized for the semi-finals.
