Background:The Douglas "Slow but Deadly" SBD Dauntless was marked for replacement even before Pearl Harbor.However,due to developmental problems with its replacement,the Helldiver,this rugged aircraft had to be pitted against the might of the Imperial Japanese Navy in the grim early days of WWll.Owing to the tenacity and bravery of its U.S.Navy crews,the Dauntless managed to destroy most of Japanese carrier fleet and therefore marked its place in hisrory.
