Important Changes in Scope
This is an important message from Oleg Maddox and Luthier
Now that the majority of the planes that saw active service on the Eastern Front are done or almost done, we are expanding our focus to other planes. While the preference is still on lesser-known planes that did see service there, like the Yer-2, Yak-4, Hs-129 or MC-200, we will also accept some experimental planes like the MiG-13, Do-335, or Go-229. However this does not include all the Luft'46 planes. The main criteria here is whether it's at all possible to model the plane accurately. Many of German war-time projects never went beyond a couple of sketches on the drawing board, and today's engineering knowledge clearly tells us that those planes would prove unfit for flying. We will compile a Priority List for these experimental planes shortly.
Still, the main criteria for any plane's acceptance for IL-2 is that the 3d model is as accurate as possible, and that there is sufficient data to model the FM accurately.
For planes that have no or very little cockpit details, we may accept a "best guess" cockpit which may be based on some bad-quality photos or unreliable drawings. In case there is no known data on cockpits at all, we may accept a cockpit that is based on other cockpits from the same aircraft designer, of course modified accodring to the specifics of the plane being modeled. But that only applies to little-documented experimental planes. If reliable data exists on the cockpit, we will not accept any deviations from the real thing.
In some cases we may choose to accept an experimental plane as AI-only if we decide that there is not enough data to meet our standards for modeling flyable planes.
Lastly, the most important comment is, no modeler should ask that a project is assigned to him, or choose projects based on what others ask for on the forums. Modeling is a very long process, and you're more likely than not to abandon a project you're not interested in. The main criteria for choosing a plane to model is your own preference! But please don't start anything without informing us!
I unfortunately have to run away right now, but during the weekend I will make major updates to the site. There are several new planes I have screenshots of, as well as additions to the plane list. You may notice an interesting addition to the German and US list even now.
