"Cool and professional Butch O'Hare made only beam or quatering turns, denying the deadly tail gunners a clear shot at him. He held his fire until about one hundred yards out, then triggered his four .50-calibers in short, precise burst against the nearest bomber in the V-of-V formation. When the bomber's starboard engine gushed smoke that turn to flame, O'Hare shifted targets. He continued his attack, slanting down into formation, and in the same pass engaged the next bobmber in line. That Betty lurched and banked into him as the Wildcat marked F-15 passed below the bombers and pulled up to the port.Only then did O'Hare realize he was alone. Dufilho's guns had jammed from the same damnable feed problem that had vexed F4F squadron for months. O'Hare was on his own against six bombers "Сообщение от А-спид
"On his next pass O'Hare concentrated on the two bombers trailing on left side of the formation. Again closing range, he flamed one G4M, which dropped out, and pressed attack on the next in line. This bomber exploded as O'Hare bullets found an engine fuel tank.
By this time survuvung five Bettys were within range of the tak force's gun. Despite flak burts snapping around the formation and tracers from every bomber that could line up a gun. O'Hare dived in for a third pass, again from the port side. He blew up the leader, but he could do nothing more. Four Bettys press their attack, dropping bombs..."
"O'Hare fired nearly all his ramaining ammunition at one of the retreating survivors. The he reined in and headed for barn. In sizzling four minutes he had made three gunnery passes, shooting five Bettys out of formation"
