"It gave you complete confidence because of its ability to out-turn the Hun. You knew that with it, if you alert, he'd never get on your tail."
Flt. Lt. Art Sager 416 Sq. Летал на самой обычной "пятерке".

А вот известный ас Иан Дункан Смит вспоминает свой первый бой с 190 весной 1942 года.
64 эскадрилья (кторой тогда он командовал) вместе с 313 пересекает побережье Франции на высоте около 10000 фт. Летели они все на старых "пятерках". Сразу после пересечения береговой линии на них сверху падают около 50 Фв.190 (я думаю, на самом деле их было около 40).

"I had heard some hair-raising tales about them, but had reserved my judgment . In no time flat I came to the conclusion that everything I had heard was true; but I had never lost confidence in the Spitfire as a fighting lady so, as I swung in a tight circle after an Fw190 that was obviously prepared to mix it, I was sure I had him cold. In three-quarters of a turn I was on his tail - two two-second burst from my cannons and mashine-guns and the Fw190 blew up the wing root, rolled over and dived straight into the sea. We went down protecting each other...It had been an eye-opener, but a succesful mission, for the total bag was two destroyed, three probables and a damaged for the loss of one of my pilots."

И чуть ниже, рассказывая о своей эскадрилье:
"We became a fighting team completely dependent on one another, developing tactics theat upset and frustrated the Fw190 each time we met them."
