Well, first select 'Analog zoom' tab, then check 'Enable analog zoom' and finally select which joystick's axis to use as zooming control. 'Invert' checkbox is self-explaining. That would do. I've tried analog zoom with v.36 and the rocker of my X45 and it worked just fine.
Never dealt with the dead zone, sorry...

BTW, can you see cyrillics correctly on your system?
