2 andreaogeno once again
Oleg_Tr says: For the sake of pure experiment I've installed Cam2Pan once again and compared it's performance with that one of my FreeLook. The view with Cam2Pan became better (that's because of latest versions of NewView 36-37, for sure). At the same time the view with FreeLook is just outstanding. Cam2Pan is still unforgiving even subtle moves in front of a camera. Setting deadzone in Cam2Pan is of no use. This could lead to sudden sliding of the gunsight's center during dogfight. It completely depends on how steady sits a pilot in front of a camera. Perhaps it really doesn't matter for a bomber pilot...
There's another issue: C2P heavily loads CP. One can see sudden jumps when looking around. On the other hand, this program is well developed.
Now, down to FreeLook. A pilot, previously used C2P, would see some advantages and some disadvantages. First of all, Freelook is an alpha version. And this is disatvantage, one and only one. It's first advantage is the way of tracking. A pilot can sit in front of a camera freely, more relaxed, more comfortable than with C2P. Freelook forgives certain subtle position changes. Centering is very precise. Moving of the view is smooth. This is especially evident when looking at trees, buildings, distant targets forests. This is due to the better algorithm and minimum CP load. Freelook works with a one-bit image (instead of a half-tone in C2P), it doesn't require attaching any filters to the camera. Any unneeded halftones are already cut out due to black and white image transformation. That's why CP load is minimal. Setting of sensitivity, smoothing and deadzones is intuitive. As well as C2P, it allows saving profiles. One can make Freelook setups for any given lighting conditions. It completely depends on the camera matrix capabilities. I achieved best results with Vicom PC Camera. And there's still more: Freelook allows cutting out whole areas from the camera's view (such as spots of light that one couldn't get rid of). Just place cursor on that area, press left mouse button, a blue pointer appears, then, still holding the button, paint with it unwanted area. That's all, the program won't take this area into account.
