Huge variety of planes covering all the roles required for WW1 missions
Consistent flight modelling resulting in realistic relative performances
2D panels - amongst the best I've seen
Missions have you on the edge of your seat - no parachute, no second chances!
Simple installation with scenery management built in
Neat and accurate plane models that look good and should texture well
Believable scenery and airbases
Lots of potential for customising and adding to (just like CFS2 itself)
Dislikes
Virtual cockpits extremely disappointing
Textures quite basic, especially up close
Sounds are a little quiet and thin for my tastes
AI likes to crash into the ground a little too much (but that's nothing new I suppose!)
A simple map in the manual to use for navigation would have been nice
Behind the times a little with special effects, poor pilot figures
A bit naughty to count the 2 triplanes as separate planes!
Mission screens are still WW2 American, would have been nice to see WW1 stuff in the background
Overall Score
This is a great add-on with a huge scope. Although its long development time coupled with commercial deadlines has meant that the individual planes aren't as nice as many you'll see out there, the quantity and consistent flight models more than compensates for this. The CD offers a package that you currently won't find anywhere else. It's very much a player's add-on rather than a sit back and enjoy the detail add-on, and as such it's close to perfection.
Apparently AlphaSim/JustFlight are considering setting up a multiplayer server for WW1 combat - I really hope this happens as the great framerates and variety of planes would be ideal in that situation.
