Вопросы есть.
One of the Spitfires LF Mk IXc Clostermann flew with No. 341 Squadron was coded NL ° B and its serial number was BS538. This aircraft bore the coat of arms of the Free French, the "Croix de Lorraine", on both sides of the fuselage under the wind screen, and featured some nose art on the left cowling, too: a pelican in flight, wearing a pilot's helmet and goggles, having one cannon protruding from each of his wings. The beak of the pelican is open and about to swallow three white swastikas; slightly to left of the painting, "Le Gueulard!" is written in black onto the cowling. As the French word "la gueule" can be translated as "snout, mouth, or nose", this name seems to refer to the pelican in the first place, as he owns this distinctive beak, where a lot of swastikas can be fitted in. Still, it can also be translated as "bigmouth" and thus could also be a short characterization of the pilot...
Whoever drew it had a good sense of humour and a gifted hand!
Частично эти детали показаны здесь.
