It is very significant as the RPM. The 'cooling' time is also modeled. If you set the RPM from 103 to 70 your IR signal strength won't be dropped as fast if you set from smaller value to 70 or lower.
Just try the following. In dogfight fly against a MiG-29 and set only 2 all aspect IR missile. Set the distance to 15 miles and turn on the labels and far labels.
1. Approach AB and fly straight ahead to MiG. Check the launch distance.
2. Approach with 100 RPM. Check the launch distance.
3. Approach with 83-85. Check the launch distance.
Also try what happens if you set lower the RPM only after launch and you are in ground clutter. The following thins are count against and IR missile.
1. You current RPM.
2. RPM values before some seconds (4-16) before the current time, the cooling time.
3. IR signal strength is specific to all AC.
4. Ground clutter, y/n.
5. The Sun can blind the IR sensors before the lock and after the launch.
6. Your aspect angle. You IR strength is much different from different aspects.
7. Distance between the missile and you. Before the launch this is equal with distance between the two AC, target and the attacker.
These are counted for locking. Additional issues after the lauch the followings.
1. Missiles have different seekers.
2. Are you dropping flares?
3. Distance of the missile from you want you drop them.
4. (?) Release interval between the flares, and qty. of flares. and maybe your relative position changing to missile, hard turn + very small RI is better than not doing a hard turn and use bigger RI. I'm not sure fully everything in no.4.
5. Range.
The default EWS programs are not the best...
Is it enough detailed?
It is easier to show everything on a video but this is not an easy thing without a help of human player. Of course I will make about this a training video. Sorry for my slow work but sometimes I'm fed up with Falcon. Next video will show you the usage of IR weapons and after comes the EWS + evasion procedures. It will be a very hard stuff.
